Correspondence

from my time as

MP for Ayr carrick & Cumnock

2015-17

As the representative of the people of Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock I worked hard to resolve any issues and queries that arose for constituents. Part of this often involves writing to Government Departments and Ministers, local councils, and any other relevant organisations or companies in order to seek clarification or to apply pressure. Below are just a few examples of the many letters I sent, on your behalf, between May 2015 and June 2017.

April 12, 2017

Official Terminology

I am writing to you with concerns over the use of certain official terminology with regards to changes in pension and other social security arrangements.

Changes to Personal Independence Payment

I am writing to you, as the SNP's Disability Spokesperson, regarding the announcement by your Department that changes will be made to the Personal Independence Payment Regulations. This announcement will have come as a shock to my own constituents in Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock, and to disabled people and their families across the country who rely on Personal Independence Payments - not least because the Government explicitly promised not to introduce any new disability cuts during this session of Parliament.

February 17, 2017

Closure of Cumnock DWP

Regarding your letter, dated 27 January, advising of the proposal to close the current DWP site as Killoch House in Cumnock, which lies in our Westminster and Scottish Parliament constituencies. This announcement is extremely worrying for Cumnock and the staff currently working in Killoch House.

Ayrshire Growth Deal

As the MP for Ayr, I am hoping you are able to confirm your support for the Ayrshire Growth Deal. Clearly it already has cross party support in the three Ayrshire councils, and the Scottish Government has confirmed its support for the deal.

Bank of Scotland Closure - Maybole

Further to my earlier correspondence around the closure of the Bank of Scotland branch in Maybole, I thought I would take the opportunity of a new year to give you a quick update on the situation in Maybole since Lloyds Banking Group abandoned the town.

November 03, 2016

Dyslexia & Parliamentary Procedure

I write ahead of Dyslexia Awareness Week, which takes place from Monday 7 November until Sunday 13 November in Scotland.

October 24, 2016

Charging Community Events for Equipment

I was particularly interested to read the 'Equalities Scooping Template' you provided. It is, unfortunately, somewhat lacking in detail.

August 03, 2016

Bank of Scotland Closure - Maybole

I would like to bring this branch closure to your attention, as I am deeply concerned by the attitude of the Lloyds Banking Group when it comes to dealing with branch closures.

June 30, 2016

Bank of Scotland Closure - Maybole

Please find attached a copy of an email I received yesterday from the Chair of Maybole Community Council, updating me on the situation Maybole finds itself in now you have closed their branch and its cash machine.

May 27, 2016

Personal Independence Payments

I am writing for clarification of your department's policy regarding the reassessment of PIP awards. I am conscious that I am seeing more and more constituents who have been transferred from Disability Living Allowance onto PIP over the last 18-24 months who are now finding themselves being reassessed.

Helping Britain Prosper Plan

Thank you for your letter about Lloyds Banking Group's Helping Britain Prosper Plan. To be frank, I was bemused to read of your duty to help Britain proper, and your commitment to support communities, particularly your plan to support disadvantaged people. It is a great pity that this support does not extend to providing them with banking facilities, which I would think would be your primary aim.

RBS Closure - Dalmellington

I have been notified today of the Royal Bank of Scotland's disappointing decision to close your branch in Dalmellington, which is one of the towns in my constituency. I would be grateful if you could explain the reasons behind the decision, and the consultation process that the bank went through with branch customers, local residents and businesses prior to this decision being taken.

April 28, 2016

Community Hall Utility Bills

Hot on the heels of concerns around the future of rural galas, I am now receiving a number of complaints from rural community groups who have been presented with huge bills for lighting and heating community halls.

April 27, 2016

Charging Community Events for Equipment

I would be interested in receiving more detail on the 'Equalities Scooping Template' that you mention. I note that these identified a 'low negative and low/medium impact' as part of the efficiency proposal considerations. I am curious, given the public outcry in many of the affected villages, what an 'Equalities Scoping Template' actually looks at.

March 31, 2016

Bank of Scotland Closure - Maybole

I am disappointed to find myself having to write to you a third time regarding your planned closure of the Bank of Scotland branch in Maybole.

March 18, 2016

Charging Community Events for Equipment

I have been contacted by a number of groups across the constituency who are extremely worried that their events will no longer go ahead following the Council's decision to introduce charges for stalls and equipment.

March 18, 2016

Charging Community Events for Equipment

I am writing to express my disbelief at your recent decision to introduce charging for the use of stalls and equipment at community events., many of which are already planned and budgeted for.

March 03, 2016

Bank of Scotland Closure - Maybole

Further to my letter to you dated 5 February, I am writing to express my disappointment and anger at the response received from your Complaints Manager last week.

February 12, 2016

Human Rights Abuses by UK Companies Overseas

Further to your answer to my parliamentary question (903387) regarding the UK's National Action Plan to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, I would be grateful for some more specific information.
