Correspondence
from my time as
MP for Ayr carrick & Cumnock
2015-17
As the representative of the people of Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock I worked hard to resolve any issues and queries that arose for constituents. Part of this often involves writing to Government Departments and Ministers, local councils, and any other relevant organisations or companies in order to seek clarification or to apply pressure. Below are just a few examples of the many letters I sent, on your behalf, between May 2015 and June 2017.

Changes to Personal Independence Payment
I am writing to you, as the SNP's Disability Spokesperson, regarding the announcement by your Department that changes will be made to the Personal Independence Payment Regulations. This announcement will have come as a shock to my own constituents in Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock, and to disabled people and their families across the country who rely on Personal Independence Payments - not least because the Government explicitly promised not to introduce any new disability cuts during this session of Parliament.

Closure of Cumnock DWP
Regarding your letter, dated 27 January, advising of the proposal to close the current DWP site as Killoch House in Cumnock, which lies in our Westminster and Scottish Parliament constituencies. This announcement is extremely worrying for Cumnock and the staff currently working in Killoch House.

Bank of Scotland Closure - Maybole
Further to my earlier correspondence around the closure of the Bank of Scotland branch in Maybole, I thought I would take the opportunity of a new year to give you a quick update on the situation in Maybole since Lloyds Banking Group abandoned the town.

Personal Independence Payments
I am writing for clarification of your department's policy regarding the reassessment of PIP awards. I am conscious that I am seeing more and more constituents who have been transferred from Disability Living Allowance onto PIP over the last 18-24 months who are now finding themselves being reassessed.

Helping Britain Prosper Plan
Thank you for your letter about Lloyds Banking Group's Helping Britain Prosper Plan. To be frank, I was bemused to read of your duty to help Britain proper, and your commitment to support communities, particularly your plan to support disadvantaged people. It is a great pity that this support does not extend to providing them with banking facilities, which I would think would be your primary aim.

RBS Closure - Dalmellington
I have been notified today of the Royal Bank of Scotland's disappointing decision to close your branch in Dalmellington, which is one of the towns in my constituency. I would be grateful if you could explain the reasons behind the decision, and the consultation process that the bank went through with branch customers, local residents and businesses prior to this decision being taken.

Charging Community Events for Equipment
I would be interested in receiving more detail on the 'Equalities Scooping Template' that you mention. I note that these identified a 'low negative and low/medium impact' as part of the efficiency proposal considerations. I am curious, given the public outcry in many of the affected villages, what an 'Equalities Scoping Template' actually looks at.
